I think it would be interesting. I've loved the oboe ever since I saw Disney's version of Peter and the Wolf. Being a bass-baritone, I have a fondness for the lower register of the clarinet Cat. But the oboe is one of my favourite instruments.

hey derek! yea i want to work on my oboe writing this week. I'm arranging scissor sisters - might be a perfect touch for the timbre of the oboes and clarinets. What do you think? Also, yea I hear purely instrumental. It's just the way I'm wired I guess.

When you orchestrate these, do you hear them purely instrumental? Or do hear the vocals being sung along?

ps. can I request an arrangement with a more prominent oboe? Or one of the deeper clarinets.

Thanks for the pingback, Walt! Your point is well-taken - and I see the problem as two-fold. First, the music industry sat on its heels on an outdated business model that became mortally threatened by the digital revolution (think ostriches with their proverbial heads in the sand). As a result, Apple (a company that cares more about selling the gizmo that plays the music, rather than the music itself) shifted the preferred mechanism for music enjoyment to the digital realm (no hit on Apple here - the switch was absolutely inevitable). Rather than try to work with the Napsters and Groksters to "evolve", the music industry got caught flat footed, and now lobbies hard to swing the pendulum the other way to their advantage. Make no mistake - the industry begrudgingly tolerated the first sale doctrine, and now they will do everything they can to eviscerate it. Like you, I miss my "mom & pop" CD (and LP) stores (like Pier Platters in Hoboken, NJ - or in the words of another former customer, "indie rock bliss"). Let's just hope the copyright law's FSD weathers this storm...and don't worry, I will definitely be watching this one...

This is truly a beautiful interpretation of this song. Keeping everything soft and light, yet still bring the true feeling of the song through. The way you pulled all together makes me want to get my old clarinet and start playing again.
